The SAPPA Portal improves access to information on agriculture policy in Africa!

SAPPA is a continental program aimed at Strengthening Agricultural Policy Practice in the pursuit of CADDP aspirations and Malabo targets. The SAPPA portal improves access to agriculture policy information in Africa for leaders in the agriculture sector and Non state Actors. This is achieved through provision of country centric data as well as a bouquet of innovative policy support tools to self-assess, enhance policy dialogue, strengthen capacity and store data and information. In order to strengthen agricultural transformation, the SAPPA portal incorporates the 4 tools.

APPI

Agriculture Policy Practice Index (APPI) which is self-assessment and benchmarking tool. The assessment process comprises; the landscaping to show Existence or Absence of a policy benchmarking processes. The Policy Benchmarking process clearly define the adequacy and sufficiency of the enabling environment for agricultural transformation in a country.

AgriCitizensNET

AgriCitizensNET (ACN) is a mobile dialogue tool, with limited survey data capabilities so that it is possible to have informed and ongoing dialogue between producers; entrepreneurs and traders as well as bureaucrats on burning issues and on current contemporary issues that need to be addressed

LeaRN

Leadership Regional Network (LeaRN). This is an online peer learning facility with two major functionalities: First Learn offers leaders of the agricultural sector learning tools including learning objects, mainly focused in agricultural and rural transformation and how that happens within the overall scope of the economic and social transformation of a country.

DataBank

The SAPPA databank starts first with the function to just upload all and every data available in the agricultural sector especially starting off with data generated from APPI, by MIRA, by BR and others so that it is easily accessible to researchers and policy makers

Description & Summary

Barefoot Education for Afrika Trust (BEAT) is in the process of rolling out the project on Strengthening Agricultural Policy Practice in Africa (SAPPA) in 11 countries over two years with the support of AGRA. BEAT developed the SAPPA Portal to improve access to information on agriculture policy in Africa. With the development and Adoption of the SAPPA portal then there is increased Access to country centric data and policy support tools for evidence-based policy reform for inclusive Agricultural Transformation. The SAPPA portal comprises of the Agriculture Policy Practice Index (APPI) E-Tool and AgriCitizenNET (ACN), Leadership Regional Network (LeaRN) and SAPPA Databank to scale up accessibility and stakeholder interactiveness on issues relevant to policy practice and implementation.. The SAPPA portal will increase availability of real time information dissemination to non-state actors and facilitate the possibility of improving the policy reform process on the African continent. The Process will involve the Landscaping and Benchmarking, and dialogue by stakeholders at National and Regional level on policies issues in the AGRA countries. The project will be carried out in eleven AGRA countries namely Ghana, Mozambique, Tanzania, Burkina Faso, Mali, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Uganda and Nigeria.
